I'm almost done writing my first digital product, an ebook about how best to hire engineers for startups.
What would you say are the top 3 ways to go about selling this ebook?
I would recommend checking out Nathan Barry's Authority, which covers this topic very well.
And if you want a shorter overview, you can also check out this post I wrote on marketing your personal projects.
1. I think the best way to sell something is to give out a piece of it(maybe a chapter or two) for free so that you earn the interest of those interested to read about the topic. Once/If they find it awesome, I believe more people would be willing to shell out a few bucks for it than those otherwise.
Note: If the part that you are letting out is moderately critical i.e. it isn't the best bit but one of the critical ones and it should also not be the least impactful bit.
2. Blogging is a great way to go about it especially if there is quality content in the blog. After you are done writing the blog , make sure you post the link to it on some famous websites especially,
(Since majority of the articles on this are technical, yours should be very noticeable owing to the fact that it is of a different nature)
Basecamp(Formerly known as 37Signals claim to have had plenty of users due to their blog Signal VS Noise )
3. Also if you could publish a small , terse post about your experience of writing the book, it should draw notice.
GoodLuck!
I don't agree with this, but I think it works. Give away a copy on a forum for a limited time. People will rate it and you get feedback. A book with 0 stars is harder to sell than some stars.
